Around Pushkar Tour:

AJMER - Founded in the 11th century by Ajaydev, a Rajput ruler, this city is famous for the dargah (tomb) of the Sufi Saint, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti. A gathering is held in his honour (Urs) every year in the seventh month according to the Muslim lunar calendar.

KISHANGARH - Miniature paintings belonging to the Kishangarh School which developed here in the mid-18th century received the patronage of the royal family of Kishangarh. The hallmark of these paintings is their sharp profiles, slanted eyes and sharp noses that make them distinct from other Indian paintings. The main attractions of Kishangarh are its fort and the Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), which has now been converted into a hotel .

KUCHAMAN - Not too far from Pushkar, this place is famous for its fort. Its past has left a distinct mark on it. The Meera Mahal depicts scenes from the life of Meera Bai in the form of miniature paintings; the Lok Dev temple, built by Ranjit Singh honouring the sacrifices of the people which hass beautiful paintings of Lok Devatas Sant Tejaji, Baba Ram Dev, , Sant Kabir, Guru Nanak and Khawaja Moinu-din-Chisti, are major attractions. Some other sites worth a visit include the Meena Bazaar (which sold ware to the royalty in the past) and the China Pole (with beautifully painted interiors by a Chinese traveler in India).

THE ROOPANGARH FORT - This was constructed by King Roop Singh of Kishangarh in 1648 for defence purposed. Originally a fort with nine turrets, new additions were continuously made from time to time. Different styles of architecture are distinctly visible in the fort. Kishangarh and Roopangarh are both not more than 100 kms from Jaipur.

SAMBHAR - A wetland declared to be of international importance, Sambhar Lake is a wonderful place near Pushkar. Apart from having horizons that stretch to infinity, the Sambhar Lake is also a bird-watcher’s paradise. The lake is home to around 140 species of birds, including land birds. It is said that Raja Yayati, a descendant of Lord Brahma, married the daughter of Shukracharya (the guru of demons), who lived by the lake.
